Each town and Outer Banks community offers many unique experiences and activities to enjoy, but one of our favorite places to explore is Corolla. Perfectly located near beachfront or soundfront homes, residents and visitors can experience everything from dining and shopping to wild horse tours and watersports. Corolla is the Outer Banks community that truly has it all. Summer is the prime time to visit Corolla. There are several community activities going on throughout Corolla during the summer. Under the Oaks Art Festival

                                Corolla Under the Oaks Art Festival Whalehead, Historic Corolla Park

On June 19th and June 20th, the annual Under the Oaks Art Festival will be held in the Historic Corolla Park at the Whalehead Club. The 17th annual event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. 100-year-old Live Oaks, open green lawns and casual breezes from the Currituck Sound make for a perfect location.  The event features the unique talents of quality artists and artisans with a wide variety of beautiful art and vibrant crafts. Local food concessions will be available, and a silent art auction will be conducted that benefits Whalehead.  Admission is FREE for everyone. Visitors are welcome to bring along the beach blankets and chairs to relax and enjoy the scene after perusing the goods. A unique experience that showcases some of the best arts and crafts that the Outer Banks region has to offer, this festival serves as a great opportunity to pick up some local treasures that are truly one-of-a-kind. Yoga in the Park

Whalehead in Historic Corolla Park
Tuesday mornings at 7:30 AM,  June 12th – September 18th

Whether you need a good long stretch after being in the car or a chance to escape the craziness, this class has just what you need. Every session includes guided meditation to re-center you, breath OBX Yoga in the Park, Corollawork to calm you and a series of seated and standing postures to make you feel like your best self.  Join Yoga Instructor, Jennifer Spore, outdoors in front of Whalehead overlooking the sound on Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am for an All Levels, 60 minute Yoga class – FOR FREE! Just bring a yoga mat, beach towel or tapestry, plenty of water and sun protection. In the event of rain or inclement weather, classes will be canceled. Must be 13 years or older and accompanied by an adult to participate. Register by phone or in person by the Monday before the class. Please contact a Whalehead Staff Member at 252-453-9040 to register. Hours of Operation are Monday – Saturday 10 AM – 4 PM. Classes are limited to 30 participants, so make sure to register early! You may drop in the day of class and participate if the max class size has not been reached.  Parking is available at the restroom facility, located beside the Whalehead building.

 

Whalehead Wednesdays

Join Sanctuary Vineyards, Vineyards on the Scuppernong and the Weeping Radish Brewery for local wine and beer tastings in the breathtaking and peaceful setting of Historic Corolla Park. Enjoy live music and family friendly activities every Wednesday from May 30th to September 12th. Upon admission, you can sip on samples of featured wines in a take-home souvenir wine glass. Bring your chair, blanket and the entire family (pets on a leash are also welcome!) to enjoy local live music while the beautiful sun sets over the Currituck Sound! Local food will be available for purchase. Whalehead Wednesdays are free for non-drinking adults and children. 

 

Lighthouse 5K Running Series

Lace up your running shoes and see the sights. Add the fun of a run and fitness to your vacation by joining a Summer morning 5k run/walk through the Historic Village of Corolla Light. Enjoy the sights of the Northern Outer Banks. Whalehead in Historic Corolla, Corolla Light and the magnificent Currituck Beach Lighthouse are all along the course. This is a family fun event touring the historic attractions of the Northern beaches of the Outer Banks! Custom designed trophies created especially for these events for the 1st place Male and Female winners and unique finisher medals to all participants. Kid’s Day in the Park

Historic Corolla Park
Every Thursday from June 28th to August 23rd, 10:00am to 4:00pm

This event will include children’s activities, a bounce house, and features a special children’s tour of Whalehead, the “Joan’s Way Tour,” as well as other fun and entertaining activities for the whole family.  The Joan’s Way Tour is a children’s audio tour that begins at 3:00pm. “Joan’s Way” is named for the daughter of the Whalehead owner’s valet. “Joan” takes children on a tour of the mansion describing what life was like when she was a child there in the 1920s.

The “Joan’s Way Tours” will start June 28th and run every Thursday through August 23rd from 3pm – 4pm. It will be a guided audio tour that will include a craft with the children.   For ages 6 – 12 years old.  The cost will be $5 per child with limited space for up to 30 children.

 

Corolla Festival of FireworksCorolla Festival of Fireworks

The 26th Annual Independence Day Celebration in Corolla will take place on July 4. There are many fun activities for family and friends. The event will kick off at 3pm with children’s games, activities, and food vendors. Live music starts at 5pm, followed by a spectacular fireworks show at dusk.Join the community in Historic Corolla Park to celebrate America’s independence July 4.
