The 2017 Outer Banks Marathon is this coming weekend with a ton of activities and events for the whole family.  Everyone can participate in this weekend event, with races for toddlers and kids all the way up to the full marathon.

Friday, November 10th

The weekend events kick off with the Race Expo at the Dare County Youth Center located at 602 Mustian St, in Kill Devil Hills. The expo lasts from 12pm to 7pm, be sure to stop by and pick up your packet!

Saturday, November 11th – Super Saturday

Saturday is the fun-for-all day with an 8k, 5k, Family Fun Run, Diaper Dash, and the Pirate Festival. All these events will be held at the First Flight High School track. The 8k and 5k are out-and-back courses starting at the track, leading runners into Nags Head Woods, and then back to the track. The minimum age is 8 and 6 respectively for these two races.  Walkers are allowed but no strollers or wheelchairs are allowed.  These races also require pre-registration.

The family fun run is open to all ages and is only 1 mile.  The diaper dash is only for crawler and toddlers and it is free. Both of these events are open for registration on the event day.

The Pirate Festival starts at 9am and ends at 1pm. It will have face painting, a rock climbing wall, a plank to walk, and plenty of pirates and photo ops for all.

Saturday evening, the Pasta Party for Marathon and Half Marathon participants will be help at Beach Side Bistro at the Sea Ranch Resort.

If you missed the expo on Friday, it will be held again on Saturday from 9am to 6pm at the Dare County Youth Center.

Sunday, November 12th

The main marathon event extends from Kitty Hawk to Manteo, on a 26.2 mile course that takes you past many Outer Banks landmarks. You will run through a portion of Nags Head Woods, pass by Jockey’s Ridge, the Wright Brothers Memorial, and more. Perhaps the most breathtaking part (Literally- It is a 650′ climb to the top at a 4% grade) of the course is when you cross over the Washington Baum Bridge to begin the final few miles into downtown Manteo.

The Half Marathon will start on E. Baltic Street at Wrightsville Avenue in Nags Head. Runners will be starting at the halfway point on the Marathon Course and ending at the same location in downtown Manteo.  The Southern 6 race will also join marathon and half marathon runners at the finish line, but these participants will start their journey at the Tanger Outlet Center in Nags Head.

The TowneBank Southern Fried Half Marathon Awards Ceremony will start at 10:30 and the TowneBank Marathon Awards Ceremony will kick off at 12:15 on Queen Elizabeth Street in Manteo.

Runners can relax and celebrate at the Post Race Southern Fried Block Party until 2:30 with live music and refreshments. After the party, return shuttles from Manteo will bring you back to your car post-race.
