Having fun in the sun is part of what drives people to the Outer Banks. However, one cannot live on fun alone. Sooner or later, we all have to eat. Thankfully there are plenty of amazing restaurants on the OBX to fit all kinds of budgets. Burger joints, pizza places, seafood shacks, all can be found up and down the coast from Corolla to Hatteras Island and beyond.
But where do you go when you want to get dressed up and have a nice meal? Maybe you are looking to celebrate a birthday, or an anniversary that happens to coincide with your time on the Outer Banks. Thankfully, there are some amazing fine dining choices as well.
Here is a list of some of the best fine dining options on the Outer Banks:
Located in Duck on the boardwalk shops, the Blue Point is one of the finest restaurants on the Outer Banks. Their menu is focused on seafood and traditional American fare and is open year round for lunch and dinner. Also home to some of the best sunsets over the Currituck Sound.
One of the longest running restaurants on the Outer Banks, Ocean Boulevard is celebrating their 20th year in business. Located in the heart of Kitty Hawk, this bistro and martini bar has something for every patron. The upstairs tables with views of the beach are highly sought after throughout the year. The building itself is the original home of Virginia Dare Hardware which opened in 1948.
Also located in Duck at the southern end of the boardwalk shops, Aqua competes with The Blue Point for the title of restaurant with the most amazing sunsets. Their menu focuses on fresh local cuisine and contemporary sushi. Aqua serves dinner year round and also has a spa attached to it. Dinner and a massage?? Does it get any better?
Located on the waterfront in Manteo in the Tranquil House Inn, 1587 is a premier fine dining destination of the Outer Banks. The menu is full of global cuisine with American influences. The large windows overlooking the Shallowbag Bay makes any meal so memorable that the quality of the food is just icing on the cake. On special nights throughout the year make sure to watch the moonrise over the water.
Located in Kill Devil Hills, JK’s is the premier steakhouse of the Outer Banks. But the menu is more than just steaks. Local caught NC seafood, lamb, veal and grain-fed chicken also highlight their wood fired cooking choices. JK’s is also famous for their “Cowboy Blend” dry rub seasonings and has been a year round dining staple on the Outer Banks since 1984.
For over 30 years, Kelly’s has been a dining and entertainment mecca in Nags Head. The Tavern is renowned for some of the best nightlife on the Outer Banks but is inaudible in the luxurious dining room of the restaurant. The menu is seafood focused with local catch, but also has vegan/vegetarian choices as well. The owners are proud of their Irish heritage and let it sprinkle special tastes into dishes and hospitality into every member of the staff.
